Artificial Intelligence Powered Google MusicFX
Google has introduced MusicFX, an upgrade of MusicLM. MusicFX can create lyrics and music loops up to 70 seconds in length, and Google claims it produces “higher quality” and “faster” music. Launched for select users in December, MusicFX is now generally available. It is available in Google’s AI Test Kitchen, which allows users to try out AI-powered experimental systems in the company’s in-house labs.
MusicFX allows users to enter text to describe the song they want to create. The tool generates two 30-second versions by default, and offers the option to extend tracks or loop them, automatically combining the beginning and end. It also makes suggestions for alternative descriptive words in the prompts and provides a word cloud of additional suggestions for adding relevant descriptions, instruments and tempos.

It’s worth noting that in short-term testing, MusicFX’s samples may not be satisfying for some users. Some may find the tracks produced to be boring, uninspired and melodically unfocused. Others said that tracks with stringed instruments sounded like a cheap MIDI sample.
With MusicFX, Google also released TextFX, a text-based lyric creation tool. TextFX was created in collaboration with rap artist and record producer Lupe Fiasco. The tool is a suite of modules designed to aid the songwriting process, including a module that finds words in a category starting with a selected letter and a module that finds similarities between two unrelated things.
