Amazon Ads
Amazon emphasized that this advertising period will not bring any price changes to Prime Video subscribers and aims to run fewer ads compared to other TV streaming providers. Subscribers who want to avoid ads do not need to take any action and there will be no change in the current price of Prime membership.
As of January 29, Amazon Prime Video users will be able to avoid ads if they pay an extra $2.99 per month. It is also planned to offer a special tier that offers an ad-free experience. This tier will be offered in addition to the $139 annual Amazon Prime subscription or the $8.99 monthly standalone Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Amazon Prime
Amazon’s decision reflects its focus on advertising revenue. According to the company’s financial statements, advertising accounts for more than 8% of Amazon’s total net sales and exceeded revenues from subscription services last year. The strategy is seen as a result of other streaming platforms raising their prices and increasing competition.
