YouTube, the world’s most popular platform, has recently been worrying users about changes to the platform’s advertising policies. Especially for free users, it seems that the video viewing experience will become increasingly difficult. YouTube has made a critical decision and stated that it will remove the skip ad option. Undoubtedly, one of the most criticized features of YouTube is the long ads that are frequently interrupted. Until now, users could skip these ads with the “Skip Ad” option after a certain period of time. However, according to new information, the platform is planning to remove this option.
YouTube Takes a Difficult and Mandatory Decision for Free Users
Some users have noticed, especially in the mobile app, that ads do not have a countdown timer. Instead, a “Skip” button appears after the ad has played for a few seconds. On the PC version, the area where the timer should be is covered by a gray rectangle.

This change is seen as part of YouTube’s strategy to drive users to its Premium service. YouTube Premium offers an ad-free experience as well as additional content and features. However, for users who do not purchase this service, the platform is becoming increasingly difficult to use. The only consolation for users is that they can get an idea of when the “Skip” button will appear by looking at the speed at which the yellow bar at the bottom fills up while ads are playing. However, this is seen as a change that undermines YouTube’s user-friendly image.
Redirection Strategy to YouTube Premium
YouTube’s move could be perceived as a more explicit strategy to force users to purchase the Premium service. This is likely to make the experience of watching videos more difficult for users.
Critics argue that such a change will negatively impact the user experience. Long and frequent ads annoy many viewers, and this may cause users to move away from the platform. If YouTube ignores users’ opinions, there may be a shift towards alternative video platforms. Users may consider switching to platforms that offer fewer ads and a higher quality content experience.
For now, these changes are being tested with a limited number of users. If the testing process goes well, these changes are expected to be made generally available. However, this move could threaten YouTube’s long-term success and risk reducing user loyalty.
