Toyota has taken its leadership in the automotive industry into an unexpected field, producing the world’s first hydrogen-powered pizza oven. With this innovative step, the Japanese giant is not only shaping kitchen technology, but also the future of sustainable energy use.

Toyota has joined forces with Japanese gas appliance manufacturer Rinnai to realize this unique project. The partnership perfectly blends Toyota’s expertise in hydrogen technology and Rinnai’s experience in oven production.

The furnace features technology adapted from Toyota’s hydrogen-powered car Mirai. Hydrogen with a high combustion temperature combines with oxygen to produce steam. This process keeps the food crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful on the inside.

First Hydrogen Powered Pizza Oven

Resembling a classic pizza oven, this innovative product features a dome-shaped structure, a chimney and a semicircular inlet slot. Its wheeled design makes it easy to transport, making it ideal for garden parties and outdoor events.

Toyota claims that cooking with hydrogen makes food more flavorful. In particular, ingredients such as mushrooms and vegetables tend to dry out on traditional wood or charcoal grills, whereas they retain their moisture in a hydrogen oven, resulting in tastier results.

While testing the oven, Toyota employees are not only making pizzas, but also croissants. This diversity demonstrates the adaptability of hydrogen technology to different cooking techniques.

This project is part of Toyota’s vision of a “hydrogen society”. The company believes that making hydrogen part of everyday life is an important step towards a sustainable future.

Toyota and Rinnai Collaboration

With this move, Toyota is taking hydrogen technology outside the automotive industry and revolutionizing a new field. This innovation by the Japanese automobile giant Toyota in cooperation with Rinnai not only cooks pizza, but also demonstrates the potential of hydrogen technology. In addition to the pizza oven, Toyota has also developed a hydrogen-powered barbecue and started using it at motorsport events. It is also working on a kamado (a traditional Japanese charcoal grill).

Toyota’s hydrogen-powered pizza oven demonstrates the automotive giant’s ability to innovate and its commitment to sustainable technologies. This project proves that hydrogen can be used not only in transportation but also in different areas of daily life. Although it is not yet clear whether it will ever be released, this innovative product offers an exciting glimpse of what the kitchens of the future could look like.
