Japanese director Takashi Miike, known for his violent horror and thrillers, adapted Osamu Tezuka’s famous manga “Midnight” into a short film as part of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” series. Using innovative technology to push the boundaries of filmmaking and storytelling, this work was considered a groundbreaking collaboration and received very positive reviews.This collaboration can be seen as an expression of respect for Japanese culture, art and cinema. Kento Kaku, Yukiyoshi Ozawa and Konatsu Kato starred in this live-action adaptation. Miike’s use of the iPhone in “Midnight” is notable for combining cinematic vision and technology. Miike talks about the advantages of filming a movie using the cinematic capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro and states that this technology can break conventional thinking for filmmakers. This collaboration is an inspiring example of how technology can be used in the creative process.

Takashi Miike is renowned for his irreverent and inventive visual style and pacing.

When “mangaka” Osamu Tezuka, known as the “God of manga”, tackled the iconic manga “Midnight”, considered a hidden masterpiece, as part of Shot on iPhone, the result was eagerly awaited by everyone.
