Artificial intelligence and robotics technologies are advancing rapidly and revolutionizing the industry. Google, Tesla, Lenovo, OpenAI and now NVIDIA. NVIDIA took another important step in humanoid robotics at the recent GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2024 event. Announcing Project GROOT at GTC 2024, NVIDIA opens an exciting window into the future of artificial intelligence and robots.Led by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Project GROOT brings a new dimension to the development of humanoid robots. GROOT stands for “Generalist Robot 00 Technology” and aims to provide a general-purpose base model for humanoid robots.

Among the possibilities offered by Project GROOT are important capabilities such as understanding natural language and mimicking human gestures. With these capabilities, robots can interact with their environment, exhibit human-like behavior and perform complex tasks.NVIDIA’s new Jetson Thor computing system supports this technology. The new SoC features a powerful GPU based on NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU architecture and is capable of delivering 800 teraflops of AI performance. This represents a significant step forward in running multi-modal AI models and delivering advanced learning capabilities. Also notable are upgrades to the NVIDIA Isaac robotics platform. These upgrades make robotic arms more intelligent, flexible and efficient, making them more suitable for industrial uses.The importance of Project GROOT highlights the potential for artificial intelligence and robotics to come together to revolutionize humanoid robotics. This technology represents one of the key steps towards artificial general robotics and could have a wide range of applications, from industrial uses to AI factories.
