The combination of artificial intelligence and drone technology continues to make our daily lives easier. This time, the target is one of dog owners’ least favorite tasks: cleaning up feces. The “Poopcopter”, developed by American inventor Caleb Olson, takes on this challenging task.
Poopcopter is a drone equipped with advanced image processing and machine learning algorithms. This innovative system uses drone technology, 3D printing and artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically detect and collect unwanted guests in your garden. The Poopcopter scans a designated area (usually the backyard), detects and collects dog feces. This saves dog owners the hassle of cleaning up after their beloved friends.
Inventor Olson’s Inspiration “Twinky”
Behind every great invention there is a story. The story of the Poopcopter starts with Olson’s dog Twinky. Olson came up with the idea while monitoring Twinky’s defecation habits with a security camera.
Developing his project over time, the inventor eventually succeeded in automating poop cleaning. However, like every innovative project, Poopcopter had its challenges. The biggest problem was the drone’s need for precise landing. GPS-based systems had a margin of error of a few meters, which was insufficient to collect the feces accurately. Olson used external machine learning models to solve this problem and ensured that the drone could make precise landings.
