The Most Bizarre Tech Patents That Actually Got Approved

The world of bizarre tech patents is stranger than fiction. Companies file thousands of patents every year. Most cover boring improvements to existing products. But some are so weird they seem like jokes. They’re not. Every patent on this list went through real legal review. Real engineers drew up real diagrams. Real lawyers argued these ideas deserved protection. Yet reading them feels like flipping through a sci-fi novel. Some of these patents came from the biggest names in technology. Others came from lone inventors with wild imaginations. Here at KREAblog, we dug into the archives. What we found will make you question everything.

1. A System That Delivers Packages by Parachute

One major e-commerce company patented airborne package delivery via parachute. The patent describes drones releasing boxes from high altitude. Small parachutes then guide each package to your doorstep. However, the patent also covers “labels that act as airfoils.” That means the shipping label itself could steer the package. Wind sensors and GPS would adjust the drop point mid-fall. It’s bonkers. The patent even accounts for fragile items needing softer landings. No one has seen this system in real-world use yet.

2. A Bizarre Tech Wristband That Tracks Hand Movements

This patent describes a wristband with ultrasonic speakers inside it. The speakers send sound waves toward your fingers. Then sensors read the echoes bouncing back. As a result, the device can tell exactly where each finger is. You could type on an invisible keyboard. The patent even mentions playing air guitar as input. It sounds silly, but the underlying tech is real. Gesture tracking without cameras could change how we use computers. Still, wearing a buzzing wristband all day seems uncomfortable.

3. Smart Pants That Correct Your Posture

Yes, someone patented pants that tell you how to sit. Sensors woven into the fabric detect your hip angle. Then small vibrating motors nudge you to sit straighter. The patent includes detailed diagrams of human buttocks. That alone makes it memorable. Furthermore, the pants connect to a phone app. The app tracks your posture score over weeks. Bad posture triggers stronger vibrations. Imagine your pants buzzing during an important meeting.

4. A Hat That Reads Your Brain Waves

This patent covers a wearable hat with EEG sensors inside. It can detect basic emotional states like stress or calm. But here’s the wild part. The hat then changes color based on your mood. So everyone around you can see how you feel. The patent suggests using it at parties. Happy guests glow green. Stressed ones turn red. Privacy experts would probably have a field day with this one.

5. Shoes with Built-In Navigation That Vibrate Your Feet

Getting lost might become impossible with these bizarre tech shoes. The patent describes footwear with GPS and tiny motors. The left shoe vibrates when you need to turn left. The right shoe buzzes for right turns. Therefore, you never need to look at your phone while walking. The patent also mentions a “heel pulse” for stopping. A rapid buzz means you’ve arrived at your destination. One version even includes pressure sensors for health tracking. Walking directions through your soles—what a time to be alive.

6. A Bizarre Tech Mirror That Judges Your Outfit

Someone actually patented a mirror with cameras and AI. It scans your clothing and offers fashion advice. The system compares your outfit to current trends online. Then it suggests changes before you leave the house. For example, it might recommend a different shirt color. The patent even covers “social event mode.” In that mode, the mirror checks if your outfit matches the event’s dress code. It’s part helpful, part dystopian. Your mirror literally telling you to change is peak modern anxiety.

7. A Robot That Follows You Carrying Your Stuff

This patent describes a small wheeled robot with a cargo bin. It follows you around like a loyal pet. Cameras and sensors help it avoid obstacles. But the strange detail is its “social awareness” feature. The robot reportedly slows down in crowded spaces to seem polite. It also moves to your non-dominant side automatically. The patent mentions airport and shopping mall uses. However, a robot trailing you through a mall seems slightly creepy. Still, carrying heavy bags is genuinely annoying.

8. A Pillow That Records Your Dreams

This might be the wildest patent on our list. The filing describes a pillow embedded with brain-monitoring sensors. It claims to detect REM sleep patterns with high accuracy. Then it maps those patterns to visual categories. In theory, the system creates rough images of your dreams. The patent uses the phrase “dream journaling without effort.” Of course, the science behind this is extremely questionable. No peer-reviewed study supports accurate dream imaging yet. But someone still got a patent for it. That’s both impressive and alarming.

9. A Fork That Counts Your Bites and Slows You Down

This bizarre tech utensil tracks how fast you eat. Sensors in the fork’s handle detect each bite. If you eat too quickly, the fork vibrates as a warning. Also, an LED light on the handle turns red. The patent suggests this helps with digestion and weight loss. It connects to an app that charts your eating speed. Some versions even include a small speaker for audio alerts. Imagine your fork beeping at you during dinner. Your grandmother’s advice to “slow down” now comes from cutlery.

10. A Device That Lets Pets Make Video Calls

Finally, we end with a patent for pet video calling. The system uses a large floor button pets can press. Pressing it starts a video call to their owner’s phone. A treat dispenser rewards the pet for making the call. The patent includes motion sensors that detect pet anxiety. So a lonely dog could literally call you at work. Furthermore, the owner can call back and dispense treats remotely. The patent drawings show a dog staring at a screen. It’s oddly sweet. But also, do we really want our pets calling us?

The world of patents reveals what inventors truly dream about. Some of these filings will never become real products. Others might quietly shape the future. But all of them show that creativity has no ceiling. The strangest ideas sometimes lead to the biggest breakthroughs. Even a buzzing fork or a mood-reading hat started with someone thinking, “What if?” That’s the spirit that drives all innovation—the willingness to sound completely absurd. Keep dreaming weird, inventors. We’ll keep reading your patents.
