Suzhou Yidaibao Intelligent Technology Co. in Jiangsu province, China. Company has designed a jacket with a wearable airbag to prevent injuries from falls. This protective system contains a chip that instantly tracks changes in body posture and can detect a potential collision. This system reacts in just 0.18 seconds to deploy the vest-shaped airbag.

This wearable airbag, which protects the head, neck and hips in the event of a fall, is specifically designed to ensure the safety of the elderly. Such technological innovations are similar to the sensor airbags that are widely used in the cycling world. In addition, wearable airbags developed to prevent injuries to elderly people as a result of falls represent an important step forward in this field.

Wearable Airbag

In fact, this technology is not new.  Introduced in 2019, these wearable airbags use a micro gyroscope and processor to detect fall movements and angles. In the event of an accident, the airbags deploy within 0.18 seconds, which is an extremely short time, to protect the wearer. An embedded microchip collects the user’s movement data 200 times per second and artificial intelligence algorithms analyze this data to effectively turn the wearable airbags into protective shields against falls. However, this product protects a much faster and wider area. Moreover, the main target audience here is not motorcyclists and cyclists, but the elderly.

Suzhou Yidaibao Intelligent Technology

Song Zhangxuan, deputy director of Suzhou Yidaibao Intelligent Technology Co., acknowledges the challenges of real-time posture analysis and rapid airbag deployment, but with nearly 200 million elderly individuals in China, the potential impact of these wearable airbags is huge. This technological innovation promises a safer future for the elderly and a sigh of relief for their loved ones.
