Hyundai unveiled its vision of future transportation at CES 2024. Developed by the company’s Supernal unit, the S-A2 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi concept is an important step forward for urban air mobility. This next-generation design aims to bring Hyundai’s fleet of flying taxis to life by 2028.The S-A2 is an air taxi with a range of 40 to 60 km on a single charge and a top speed of 180 km per hour. Thanks to its eight rotors, this aircraft offers helicopter-like vertical take-off and landing and can carry four passengers.Supernal plans to integrate this flying taxi into a broad mobility system that includes vertiport and air traffic management. The VertiPort system developed by Hyundai will allow the flying taxis to take off and land easily.

The company aims to start air taxi services in major cities such as Los Angeles by 2028. In the first phase, these flying taxis are expected to be an alternative to traffic for short-distance journeys. Supernal is working to integrate flying taxis into the airspace in cooperation with regulatory agencies.
